Chia Seeds

Interestingly, I've found the best prices for chia seeds through Amazon.com. I even went to the individual company websites who sell through Amazon, and their prices are higher at their own sites. I don't know why. Anyway, here are some good chia seed products with the lowest prices - that interestingly again - receive the highest customer ratings.

The Magic of Chia

You probably know that chia seeds have an unusually good ratio of omega-3 oil to omega-6 oil - but did you know that that chia is also an excellent source of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc AND copper?

When you hydrate the chia seeds in water, they absorb up to 9 times their weight in water, forming a "chia seed gel" which helps hydrate the body and acts as an appetite suppressant. Chia seeds are helpful in digestion, easy to prepare and have virtually no flavor to interfere in recipes.

Chia seeds can be beneficial in most any diet, but have been especially useful to endurance athletes, people interested in weight loss or simply eating a raw food diet. Chia seeds also have more protein, lipids, energy and fiber (but fewer carbs) than rice, barley, oats, wheat and corn.

If you want to know more about this natural food, including healthy recipes and creative ways to use chia seeds and how to benefits from it, I recommend "The Magic of Chia" by James Sheer.
